Your Daily Dracula – Son of Dracula (1999)
Lon Chaney and Harry Nilsson aren’t the oddest claimants to the title ‘son of Dracula’. In this Hindi movie, the term refers to a midget goblin with a unabrow who looks like a super-deformed cross between Nosferatu and the Keeper of the Purple Twilight (from The Outer Limits). It bites necks, eats people to their bones, zaps cops so their uniforms dissolve and does other mischief, but might not technically be a vampire. The premise is that Thaukur Rajinder Singh (Joginder), a moustached rich git, is so obsessed with bare midriff dancing vixens – who get to shimmy and shake to plentiful songs, sometimes under a waterfall – that his general naughtiness attracts the attention of demons … who send houris to seduce him, whereupon he fathers the imp, who may or may not be related to Dracula but is certainly affiliated with an ancient, cobwebbed fanged creature whose optical eyezaps are often misaligned. Rajinder’s wife prays to Kali for salvation, and the battle is joined by some comedy cops and a more or less capable tantric priest. There’s a lot of lightning and many zap effects. Directed by Salim Suma.
