My sister Sasha and I share this in memory of our parents, the potters Bryan and Julia Newman. Here are some pictures of him, my late mother Julia Newman, and Dad’s pottery.

We’re so very lucky to be surrounded by so much of his work and he is such a presence in all of our homes.
Every time I sit and see the sublime wood carving he did for mum and dad recently I am stunned by his talent.
You and Sasha must be so very proud. I know dad has been hit quite hard at the loss of his dear old friend.
My memories of our times in Aller, riding Fancy with your mum, egg rolling at Easter, playing pool with your dad… are still so vivid after all these years.

I have learned of your parent’s pottery only this past few weeks as I went to ask help from the southwest pottery association re the origin of a casserole pot I bought. It looked special so wanted to know where it came from. And weeks of search lead me to this article. My casserole looks like the teapot and the small vase in your pictures.

On Friday evenings, I went to your parents flat in Brixton for supper. While they prepared it, I sat with you and Sasha as we watched Dr. Who in case the Darleks got to scarey.
After a long break from my career in pottery, I returned to it in 2020 and wanted to let Bryan know what I was doing, only to find that I was too late. I am grateful to him as a teacher and to both your parents for their hospitality in London and Aller.

I grew up in Langport (at Brooklands remand home where my father Huw Walters worked). I remember your sister Sasha quite well – did you live in Wearne Lane, Langport for a little while?
Wevisited the pottery in Aller many times – my parents knew your parents.
