It’s interesting what you say about being aware of the film. I remember in the early 70s the Milk Marketing Board did a series of cinema ads from film sets and one of them was for the first Phibes film.Perhaps that is what drew me into the genre. I think the first X film I ever snuck into was either Theatre of Blood or a rerun of The Devils
I remember those ads – and the Phibes one in particular. The other ones that stuck in my mind were milk ads shot on the sets of Live and Let Die, The Omen and Freddie Francis’s Craze. I’m sure Jack Palance and Trevor Howard drank a lot of milk while making Craze. A few have turned up online, but I’d love to see a collection – apart from the weird kitsch factor, they’ll be pretty much the only onset footage for a lot of British films.
