Yes!!!!!! Absolutely brilliant review, Kim, one that has given me new hope. I thought at first this was going to be a bit Hollywoody (despite being a huge massive fan of Raimi and his use and enjoyment of cinema) and the china doll movie stills I thought was a sign of maybe this getting too young-Disneyish in feel, but in fact, the film sounds (and looks from the trailer) an absolute thrill of a time. The china doll seems surreal and creepy now rather than dreaded cutesy – a genius touch. I agree with you about the 3D, some directors, and film fans, understand why 3D is such fun when used right. If you got it – bloody well use it, as a creative indulgence; like going “boo” to a stranger in a crowd. The first word that came to my head after reading this review, was a joyous “brill”..an excitable “brill” that I never usually say, like I’d reverted to a teenage me again, at the roller disco! I hope the film will have the same effect on me as your review – be “brill”. It seems like it will (and this from a man who adores Return to Oz far more than the Garland version, and loves the dark side of Oz and Burton’s magnificent Wonderland…). Kim – thanks:))
